A uPVC sliding door is a large glass door in a rigid plastic frame, used most often between a living room or bedroom and its balcony. Its job is harder than a window's. It faces the rain, it is opened many times a day, and it is the biggest gap in the wall. uPVC suits that job because its shutters close onto seals on every edge, and nothing in the frame can rust. Why a balcony is the hardest place for a door
A balcony door takes wind-driven rain straight onto its glass and its bottom track. Water that reaches the track has to go back outside, not into the room. A new uPVC door has drain slots in its bottom track for exactly this, and we check that they face the balcony and are clear before we leave.
Dust is the second problem. An old door with worn seals lets a line of dust in along its full height. uPVC shutters close onto soft seals on every edge, and the two shutters lock into each other where they meet in the middle.
The third is noise. A door that seals against dust also holds back a good part of the road. We say reduce, not remove. If noise is the main reason you are changing the door, ask us to price double glazed glass in the same frame.
Toughened glass, and why a door needs it
We use toughened glass in sliding doors. It is safety glass, several times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness. If it ever breaks, it breaks into small blunt pieces and not into long sharp ones.
That matters on a door in a way it does not on a small window. A door's glass reaches the floor. People walk towards it, children run at it, and furniture gets pushed against it.
Toughened glass is cut to size first and toughened afterwards. It cannot be trimmed later. This is one reason we measure your opening ourselves and do not work from sizes sent by message.
uPVC sliding doors with a mosquito mesh door
A 2-track door has two glass shutters. A 3-track door adds a third track for a sliding mesh door. You slide the glass open, slide the mesh shut, and the balcony air comes in without the mosquitoes.
On a balcony door the mesh earns its cost quickly, because this is the door that stays open longest in the evening. The mesh shutter runs the full height of the door, and it can be re-meshed later on its own.
A third track makes the bottom track wider. We check the width of your floor sill when we measure. Where the sill is too narrow, we tell you what the options are before you order.
uPVC sliding door price per sq ft, with a worked example
The rate starts at ₹650 per sq ft, fitted, before GST. That is for a standard 2-track door in white with clear toughened glass. A balcony door 6 ft wide and 7 ft high is 42 sq ft, so it starts at ₹27,300.
A door costs more per sq ft than a window for plain reasons. The frame is heavier. The rollers carry far more weight. The glass is toughened. And the lock has to be one you can trust on an outside door.
The rate rises with a third track and mesh door, a wood finish, and a safety grill. A very wide opening is made with three or four shutters, which also adds to it.

When uPVC is the wrong choice for your opening
uPVC frames are thicker than aluminium ones. On a normal balcony opening that is no loss. On a very wide or very tall opening it starts to show, because the frames grow heavier as the glass does, and they take up more of the view.

Fitting day, and where we work
The old door and its frame are taken out and carried away on the fitting day. The new frame is set level on the sill, fixed to the wall and sealed all round. A bottom track that is not level gives a door that rolls by itself, so we set it with care.
Then the shutters are hung, the rollers are set, and the lock is tested from both sides. You pay the balance when the door slides with a light push and locks.
