We repair sliding door tracks across Bengaluru. Every sliding door lives or dies by its track, the metal groove the rollers run along. Years of grit grind a rough patch into it. A dropped gas cylinder or a moving-day accident dents it. Once the track is damaged, new rollers die young too, because they are running on a bad road. We dress the track smooth, clean it out, reset the guides, and only replace a section when it is truly past saving. The visit starts at ₹1,900.
How a track goes bad
Grit is the main killer. Bengaluru dust settles in the groove, the rollers grind it in, and over years the track surface turns from smooth to sandpaper. You hear it as a rumble and feel it as a door that needs a shove to start.
Dents are the second. Something heavy lands on the track, and the door catches at the same spot every time. One small dent can make a whole door feel broken.
Wear ridges are the third. Rollers running slightly off-centre for years carve a groove beside the proper one. The door then wanders between the two and judders.
The track is the road. Rollers are the wheels. Fixing the wheels without fixing the road is money half spent, and it is the commonest mistake in sliding door repair.
Dressing a track instead of replacing it
Most damaged tracks do not need replacing. They need dressing: the rough patches filed and stoned smooth, the dents eased up, the ridges taken down, and the whole groove cleaned to bare clean metal.
A dressed track is genuinely smooth, not just cleaner. The difference is felt the moment the door is pushed.
Replacement is for the minority: a track worn through its surface, cracked, or bent beyond easing. Then we cut out and replace the bad length, priced per foot, and only that length. Replacing an entire track because of one bad foot is the kind of upsell this page exists to argue against.
The visit, start to finish
The door comes off its track. We inspect the full length under light, because the damage you can feel is usually longer than the damage you can see.
Then the dressing: filing, stoning, easing dents, and vacuuming the groove clean. The drain holes in an outdoor track are cleared at the same time, since a track that holds rainwater rusts from below.
The rollers are checked while the door is off. Running new-dressed track under flat-spotted rollers ruins the work, so if they are worn we say so, and a pair is a fixed price on top.
The door goes back on, the guides and stoppers are reset, and we run it end to end until it moves with one finger.
What track work costs
The visit is ₹1,900, covering travel and the dressing work on one door's track. A second door in the same house usually fits in the same visit for a modest addition, because the tools are already out.
A replacement track section, where dressing cannot save it, is priced per foot and agreed before we cut anything. Rollers, if needed, are their own fixed price per pair.
What this visit saves is the track replacement you would otherwise be sold. Most of the tracks we are called to replace, we dress instead, and the door runs for years more on the metal it already had.
