How a track goes bad
Grit does the most damage. Dust settles in the groove and the rollers grind it in. Over the years the track surface turns from smooth to rough. You hear it as a rumble, and feel it as a door that needs a shove to start.
Dents come next. Something heavy lands on the track, such as a gas cylinder, and the door catches at the same spot every time. One small dent can make a whole door feel broken.
Wear ridges are the third fault. Rollers running slightly off-centre for years cut a second groove beside the proper one. The door then wanders between the two and judders.
New rollers on a damaged track wear out early. So we repair the track before, or together with, the rollers.
Dressing a track instead of replacing it
Many damaged tracks do not need replacing. They need dressing. That means filing the rough patches smooth, easing the dents up, taking the ridges down, and cleaning the groove to bare metal.
A dressed track is smooth, not just cleaner. You feel the difference the moment you push the door.
Replacement is for a track worn through its surface, cracked, or bent too far to ease. Then we cut out and replace only the bad length, priced per foot.
The visit, start to finish
The door comes off its track. We inspect the full length under a light, because the damage you can feel is usually longer than the damage you can see.
Then we dress the track and vacuum the groove clean. On an outdoor track we clear the drain holes too, so rainwater does not stand in it.
We check the rollers while the door is off. Worn rollers would damage the newly dressed track. If they are worn, we tell you, and a new pair has its own fixed price.
The door goes back on, and we reset the guides and stoppers. Then we run it end to end until it moves with one finger.
What track work costs
The visit is ₹1,710. It covers travel and dressing one door's track. A second door in the same home can often be done on the same visit, for a small extra charge.
A replacement track section is priced per foot, and agreed before we cut anything. Rollers, if needed, have their own fixed price per pair.
