We replace locks on sliding glass doors across Bengaluru. A sliding door cannot use a normal bolt, because the leaf moves sideways. It uses a hook lock. A curved hook swings out of the door edge and catches a keeper, pulling the leaf tight before it holds it shut. When the hook wears, the door rattles, then it stops locking at all. Balcony doors, and any door on an upper floor, should lock. We fit a new hook lock, line up the keeper, and leave the door pulling shut properly. Prices start at ₹1,400, supplied and fitted.
Why sliding doors stop locking
The hook wears round. A sharp hook grips its keeper. A worn one slips out when the door is pushed, which is exactly when you need it to hold.
The leaves have drifted apart. Rollers wear, the leaf drops, and the hook no longer reaches the keeper. The lock is often healthy. The door needs lifting back to height.
The flush handle has snapped. On many doors the handle and the lock are one unit, so a broken handle means no way to work the hook.
A door that needs a lift-and-slam to lock is telling you which of these has started. Send us a short video of the door closing and we can usually name the fault from it.
One fault, two possible fixes
If the lock itself has worn, we fit a new hook lock into the same cutout in the door edge. Most sliding door locks follow standard sizes, and we carry the common ones.
If the door has dropped, the honest fix is the rollers, not the lock. A new lock on a dropped door fails again in months, because the hook is still stretching to reach its keeper. We check the door height first, every time, and we tell you which fix yours needs.
Sometimes it is both, and doing them together costs one visit instead of two.
The visit, and the twenty-close test
We check how the leaf sits in its track before touching the lock. If the height is right, the old lock comes out of the door edge and the new one goes into the same cutout.
Then the keeper. We set it so the hook pulls the door snug against its seal before it holds. A well-set hook lock actually closes the draught gap most sliding doors have.
We finish by working the lock twenty times, fast and slow, because a lock that works once for the fitter has proven nothing. The whole job is usually under an hour.
What it costs, and what changes the number
A hook lock, supplied and fitted, starts at ₹1,400. That includes setting the keeper and the closing pull.
A lock with a key cylinder costs a little more than a latch-only type. If the flush pull handle is broken, it is a small extra line. If the rollers are the real fault, that is its own fixed price, and we tell you before doing anything.
