Where a door binds tells you why
Scraping along the floor through the whole swing: the door has dropped bodily, on worn hinges or a sunk floor spring.
Binding at the top corner of the latch side: the door has sagged diagonally, the classic worn-hinge signature.
Sticking at one season and free in another: swelling. Moisture is moving the door or its frame, and monsoon is when it grips.
Jamming at the same spot of a slider's travel: track damage at that point, or a flat roller thudding.
A latch that needs the handle lifted to close: the door has moved relative to its keeps, and the lock is straining to reach home.
We read the door's rub marks like a map before adjusting anything. The marks never lie about where the interference is.
Why doors drop, and why forcing makes it worse
Every door hangs its whole weight on its hinges or pivot, all day, for years. Hinge pins wear oval, screws creep out of their threads, floor spring bearings settle, and the door comes down a millimetre or three. A millimetre at the hinge is a scraping corner at the far edge.
The learned shove accelerates all of it. Forcing a binding door levers its hinges at every use, working the fixings looser and the sag faster, and on glass doors it also shocks the panel, which is how stuck doors produce cracked glass.
The repair unwinds the sequence: fixings re-made solid, worn parts replaced at fixed prices, the door lifted and set square so it swings through its opening with clearance everywhere.
