A uPVC window rarely fails in one obvious place. A dropped shutter makes the handle stiff. Worn rollers open a gap at one corner. A blocked drain looks like a failed seal. We repair uPVC doors and windows in Bengaluru as a system: movement, alignment, locking points, seals and drainage, checked in that order, before any part is named. You see the part and its price before we fit it.
The faults uPVC gets, and what is usually behind them
A handle that is hard to turn is usually a dropped shutter, not a bad handle. The locking points are pushing against the frame keeps. A sliding shutter that drags has worn bogies, the twin-wheel rollers under it. A corner that leaks after rain is often a blocked drain hole in the sill, not a failed seal.
A casement window that will not close flush has a hinge that has worn or a keep that has moved. A door that locks only when you lift it has dropped on its hinges.
Each of these looks like a different fault and is usually one adjustment or one part.
How we find the real fault
We work the window slowly and watch where it meets the frame. Then we check roller height or hinge alignment, the handle and the locking gear, the rubber seals, and the drainage path, in that order.
The order matters. A stiff handle often works normally once the shutter is aligned. In that case you pay for the alignment, not for a handle and a gear you did not need.
Only when the alignment is right and a part still fails do we name it, show it to you, and price it.
Handles, locks, rollers and hinges
uPVC handles look alike and are not. Two handles can differ in spindle length and screw spacing. Rollers and locking gears change with the frame system. We carry the common ones and identify yours on site.
A lever handle is changed in minutes. A multipoint locking gear, the long strip inside the shutter edge, takes longer and is matched to your frame. Rollers are changed as a pair and the shutter height is set so the interlock, the line where two shutters meet, closes fully.
Casement hinges that have worn are changed and the shutter re-hung so it meets its seal evenly all round.
Seals, leaks and drains
The rubber seal around a uPVC shutter goes hard and flat over the years, and Bengaluru's afternoon sun speeds that up on a west-facing window. A flat seal lets in dust, the sound of the road and a draught. We fit new seal sized to the gap, so the shutter closes onto something soft.
Water in the room after rain is traced before anything is sealed. The drain holes in the sill are the usual cause, and clearing them is visit work. A gap between the frame and the wall is sealed inside and out. The seal is replaced only when the seal itself has failed.
Cracked or misted double glazed glass
Many uPVC windows hold a double glazed unit, two panes sealed together with a gap between. If one pane cracks, or the gap mists up inside and will not wipe clear, the seal of that unit has failed.
The unit is replaced on its own. The frame and the shutter stay in the wall. We measure the unit, make a new one to that size, and fit it with new glazing beads where the old ones have gone brittle. Misting between the panes cannot be cleaned from outside.
