Work in the old sectors and around Sadar Bazaar is shaped by the streets rather than the buildings. Access is tight, frontages are narrow and almost nothing can be delivered to the door during the day. The glazing itself is ordinary shopfront and cabin work; the logistics are what need planning.
Working out how the glass actually arrives
In the older parts of town a vehicle often cannot reach the shop, and the last stretch is on foot through a lane or a bazaar.
That sets the maximum panel size, and it is usually smaller than the frontage would allow.
So we walk the route from the nearest vehicle point to the door before sizing anything. Doing that first means the design suits the way in; doing it afterwards means a panel that cannot reach the shop it was made for.
Frontages that are not square
Buildings here have been altered and rebuilt piecemeal over decades, and shopfront openings are frequently wider at the top than the bottom or out of plumb at one side.
A frontage cut to a single width will not fit an opening like that.
So we template irregular openings rather than measuring them — taking the actual shape rather than two numbers. It costs a little more and the glass goes in first time, which matters when the alternative is a shop standing boarded for another week.
Fitting without closing a shop that trades daily
These are mostly small businesses where a day not trading is a real loss, so we work in short stages rather than taking the shop apart.
Measure on one visit, bring finished glass on another, fit in a few hours.
