Water around a uPVC door can pass through a tired seal, an open frame joint or drainage holes blocked with dirt. A door that has dropped may also press unevenly against its seals. We trace where the water enters before sealing anything, because covering the wrong joint only moves the leak.

- How to tell

What you can check first
These checks are safe to do yourself. A photo or a short video of what you find helps us come prepared.
- During rain, note whether water first appears at the top, side, corner or bottom track.
- Look for a seal that is split, flattened or pulled away from a corner.
- Use a soft brush to remove only loose dirt that is clearly visible in the bottom track.
- Place a dry tissue at separate corners to help identify which area becomes damp first.
- Photograph the outside threshold and the joint where the frame meets the wall.
Keep water away from nearby sockets, extension boards and timber flooring. If it reaches an electrical fitting, switch off that circuit only if it is safe to do so and call the appropriate professional.

Why does my uPVC door leak only in heavy or windy rain?
Wind pushes water against joints and seals that ordinary rain may not reach. A small alignment gap or open corner can therefore show up only in one weather direction. The wettest point helps locate the path.
Will adding silicone stop a uPVC door from leaking?
Only when a failed frame joint is the proven entry point. Silicone over a blocked drain or worn door seal can trap water and move the leak elsewhere. The path should be found before any joint is sealed.
Must a leaking uPVC door be replaced completely?
Usually not. Alignment, drainage, gaskets and frame joints can be dealt with separately. Replacement is considered when the frame or threshold is too damaged to support a reliable repair.
Can a uPVC door leak be tested when it is not raining?
Yes. A controlled water test can help confirm the entry path after the visual checks. It should be done section by section, without flooding the track or forcing water upward into joints.
