These towers are new enough that most enclosures are the first the bathroom has had, and the flats repeat - the same layout, the same bathroom, floor after floor. That repetition is worth using, because it makes doing several flats together substantially cheaper than doing them one at a time.
Why identical flats cost less done together
Most of the cost in a single enclosure is not glass. It is the survey, the trip, the setting up and the making.\n\nWhen several flats in a tower have the same bathroom, the design is done once and the glass is cut in one batch.\n\nSo three flats done together cost noticeably less each than three done separately over a year. We measure each one individually - flats do vary slightly even when they should not - but everything after that is shared.
Checking that identical flats really are identical
Flats that are the same on the drawing are usually within a few millimetres of each other, and occasionally they are not.\n\nA wall that is out by a centimetre is invisible until frameless glass is offered up to it.\n\nSo we measure every bathroom even in a batch, rather than measuring one and multiplying. It takes a few extra minutes per flat. Cutting a batch of glass to one measurement and finding the third bathroom is different is a far more expensive mistake.
New buildings settle, and glass does not
A new tower moves slightly in its first years as the structure settles, and that movement reaches internal walls.\n\nGlass has no give at all, so an enclosure fixed rigidly at every point can end up loaded if the wall moves.\n\nThe answer is in the detail rather than the design: fixings that allow a little tolerance, and a silicone joint that stays flexible rather than a rigid grout. It is how these should be fitted anyway, and it matters more in a building this new.
