Most enclosures we fit here are replacing an earlier one, which means the interesting part of the job is usually why the last one failed. That is worth establishing before fitting the same thing again in the same place, because the common causes are all avoidable.
Why the last enclosure failed
There are three usual answers, and they need different fixes.\n\nIf the glass came loose, the fixings went into something that could not hold them, and the new ones need to land elsewhere or into a resin anchor. If it leaked, the seal or the fall is wrong, not the glass. If the door dropped, it was too heavy for its hinges.\n\nSo we ask what actually went wrong before quoting. Fitting an identical replacement into the same holes is the most common way of getting the same result a second time.
Hinges are where a shower door is won or lost
The glass in a shower door almost never fails. The hinges carry all of the weight and take all of the movement.\n\nCheap hinges wear at the pivot, which lets the door drop a few millimetres. That is enough to make it catch on the tile, and once it catches people start lifting it, which wears the pivot faster.\n\nSo hinge quality is the part of the specification worth spending on, and it is the part people never ask about. We tell you what is being fitted rather than leaving it as a line item.
A door that has to clear the fittings
In a replacement job the bathroom is already fitted out, so the door has to work around what is there.\n\nA hinged door swinging out needs clear floor, and the things it usually catches are the WC, the basin pedestal and a radiator or towel rail.\n\nWe check the swing against everything in the room while measuring, not just the floor area. Where it will not clear, an inward-opening or sliding layout solves it. It is a five-minute check that prevents the most annoying possible outcome.
