Many flats here have a compact third bathroom off the small bedroom or the utility, and it is generally written off as too small to do anything with. Most of them can be made genuinely usable, and the glass is the smallest part of that — the layout and the door do nearly all the work.
Why these rooms feel unusable
The problem is almost never the total floor area. It is that the door swing, the basin and the WC have been arranged without any thought for where somebody stands.\n\nSo the room measures adequately and has nowhere to actually be.\n\nWe mark the door swing and the standing positions on the floor before discussing glass. Frequently the fix is rehanging the door to open outwards, which frees a surprising amount and costs very little, and then a fixed screen is all that is needed.
The smallest thing that works
In a room this size a full enclosure with a door takes up more than it gains.\n\nA single fixed screen positioned to stop the spray reaching the basin and the door is usually the whole answer.\n\nIt leaves the floor open, has nothing to swing and nothing to wear out, and costs considerably less than a cubicle. It is also the easiest to fit in a room where there is barely space to work, which matters more than it sounds on the day.
Making a small bathroom feel less like a cupboard
Clear glass rather than frosted lets the eye reach the far wall, so the room reads as its full size instead of stopping at the screen.\n\nA mirror placed opposite the light rather than beside it does more for the sense of space than anything else available.\n\nNeither costs more than the alternative. In a room this size those two decisions make a larger difference than any amount spent on the specification of the glass, and they are the ones people are least often offered.
