In a larger master bathroom the shower is often built for two — twin heads, or a wide enclosure used by two people in the morning. That is a genuinely different design problem from a single shower, and the differences are practical rather than luxurious.
What two shower heads change
Two heads mean twice the water in the same enclosure, and spray from two directions rather than one.\n\nSo the wet area is larger and less predictable, and an enclosure sized for a single shower will let water out at the opening.\n\nIt also means the drain has to take twice the flow, and a single small outlet frequently cannot. So the enclosure gets deeper and wider than a single one, and the drainage is checked rather than assumed. Both are decided before anything is ordered.
A wider opening without a wider door
A wide enclosure invites a wide door, and a wide door is heavy, which is what wears hinges and makes doors drop.\n\nThe better arrangement is a fixed panel with a normal-width door beside it, or a walk-in opening with no door at all.\n\nYou get the width and the glass area, the moving part stays a sensible size, and it costs less because a fixed panel needs no hardware. In a two-person shower that is nearly always the right answer, and it is rarely what gets drawn.
Ventilation for a bathroom used twice over
Two showers running one after the other in the morning puts far more moisture into a room than one does, and the room has the same time to clear it.\n\nSo extraction matters more in these bathrooms than the size suggests, and it wants to be above the shower rather than by the door.\n\nWe raise it because it is usually somebody else's decision, and an enclosure gets blamed for a ventilation problem it did not create. A generous gap at the top of the glass helps and does not substitute for an extractor that works.
