A common arrangement here is one floor being rebuilt while the family lives on another. That means we are working on a building site inside an occupied house, and the practical questions are about separation and sequence rather than about the bathroom itself.
Working above or below people who live there
A floor under construction sits directly over or under a floor somebody is living on, and everything travels between them — noise, dust and occasionally water.\n\nSo the most useful thing is separating the two properly: sheeting the stair, sealing the openings between floors, and agreeing when noisy work happens.\n\nWe do our part of that even though we are one trade among several, because a bathroom fit-out involves drilling into the slab that is somebody's ceiling. It is worth raising with whoever is running the build rather than assuming it is handled.
Coming in at the right point of somebody else's build
On a rebuild there is a builder, a plumber and a tiler ahead of us, and the useful moment is after the plumbing is roughed in and before the tiler starts.\n\nAt that point the wet area can be set out to suit the enclosure and the floor falls laid to match.\n\nSo it is worth having us look then even though we cannot fit for weeks. It costs nothing, we are quoting anyway, and it removes the compromises that otherwise appear once the tiling is fixed and everything is settled.
Fitting the enclosure last, properly
Glass should be the final item in a bathroom, after tiling, sanitaryware and painting, because everything that follows it causes damage.\n\nOn a site running to a programme that gets compressed, and we are frequently asked to fit early.\n\nWhere that happens we protect the panels and charge for it, because the alternative is replacing scratched glass at handover. On a rebuild where the family is waiting to move floors, a week's patience is usually available and worth taking.

- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
