In a lot of these flats one bathroom does all the work and the second has been barely touched since handover. When a household grows or a parent moves in, that room suddenly has to function, and a bathroom that has stood unused for years is not simply a clean one.
What happens to a bathroom nobody uses
An unused bathroom dries out in ways that cause problems: floor and drain traps evaporate, letting smells back up, and seals that are never wetted go hard and crack.\n\nSo the first thing is to run every outlet for a while and see what happens.\n\nWe check the trap, the seals around the WC and basin, and whether the window or extractor still works, before anything about an enclosure. A new enclosure in a room with a dry trap solves nothing that anybody will actually notice.
Fittings that have aged without being used
People assume an unused bathroom is in as-new condition, and it usually is not.\n\nRubber and silicone age with time and heat rather than with use, so the seals in a ten-year-old unused bathroom are ten years old.\n\nSo the taps, the seals and the flush mechanism are worth checking before the room goes into service, because they will fail early once it does. It is a short list and it is far better dealt with while we are fitting the enclosure than a month later.
Designing for who will actually use it
A second bathroom being brought into use is usually for somebody specific — a parent, a child, a guest — and that should shape the layout rather than matching the main bathroom.\n\nFor an older user that means a level entry, something solid to hold, and no door to pull against.\n\nFor a child it means toughened glass, which we fit anyway, and no free-standing glass edges at their head height. We ask who it is for, because it is the one piece of information that changes the design and it is rarely volunteered.

- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
