These houses mostly have a window in the bathroom, which is a real advantage for drying the room and a common complication for the enclosure. The window is frequently on the wall the shower is against, and working out how the two coexist is most of the design here.
When the window is inside the shower area
A window within the wet zone gets wet every time the shower runs, and a timber or untreated frame will not survive that for long.\n\nAn aluminium or uPVC window is fine with it; a wooden one is not.\n\nSo the first thing we check is what the window is made of. Where it is timber, the options are to move the enclosure so the window sits outside the wet area, or to replace the window with something that tolerates it. Both are honest answers and the choice is yours.
Reaching a window behind glass
If the enclosure encloses the window, opening it means reaching over or through the glass, and in practice it stops being opened at all.\n\nThat loses exactly the ventilation that made having a window worth something.\n\nSo where we can, we set the enclosure so the window stays reachable from the dry side. Where we cannot, we would rather say plainly that the window will effectively be sealed, so the extractor becomes the only ventilation and needs to actually work.
Glass meeting a window reveal
Where a screen runs up to a window reveal rather than a flat wall, there is a step, and a straight panel cannot seal against a step.\n\nSo the glass either stops short of it, leaving a gap, or is cut around it.\n\nCutting around a reveal and polishing the edge gives a panel that sits flat and seals properly. It costs a little more than a straight cut and it is the difference between a neat junction and a permanent silicone wedge that eventually fails.
