A good number of these houses were built for one family and now hold two or three households across their floors, often sharing bathrooms that were never designed for that. The enclosure has to survive far more use than a family bathroom, and it has to be quick to put right when something fails.
A bathroom used far more than it was built for
A bathroom serving several households sees many times the use of a family one, and every extra use lands on the moving parts.\n\nSo anything needing to be aligned or lifted to close will be operated carelessly and will fail.\n\nThe right answer is a design with nothing to align: a sliding door that cannot be mis-latched, or a fixed screen with no door at all. It is a plainer specification than we would suggest for a private bathroom and it is the correct one here.
Seals age faster in a bathroom in constant use
Seals and gaskets spend far more of their life hot and wet in a shared bathroom than in a family one, and heat is what ages them.\n\nSo the same part fails considerably sooner here, and that is normal rather than a fault.\n\nWe fit better seals as standard rather than as an upgrade, and we tell you which part wears first and roughly when. Knowing that a seal is a cheap wear item stops it being treated as a failure of the enclosure.
Repairs anybody can do
Where a bathroom is shared, the person who notices a fault is often not the person who arranges the repair, so small problems get left.\n\nThe practical response is to use standard, widely available hardware and nothing proprietary.\n\nA seal, handle or catch that can be bought locally and changed in ten minutes is worth far more here than a better-looking part that only we can supply. We fit accordingly and say which items are the wear parts.
