A squeaking shower door usually has a hinge that has run dry. A creak often means a loose fixing, and a squeal on a sliding door means worn rollers. Many squeaks stop after cleaning and the right grease, with no new part. When a hinge or roller has worn inside, it needs replacing.

- The door squeaks through its swing, but it moves easily and sits level. A hinge is the metal fitting the door turns on. There is no rust on it yet.

- How to tell
- You hear a creak as the door starts to move, or a rub near the floor. The door may have dropped a little, so its edge now touches something.

- Listen near the top hinge, then the bottom one, to find where the sound comes from.
- Look for rust at the hinge pivot, which points to a worn part.

Does a squeaking shower door mean a hinge is about to fail?
Not on its own. A dry hinge can squeak for a long time and still hold the door well. A squeak with rust, a click or a small drop is different. Those signs mean the part is wearing inside.
Can one visit quieten more than one noisy door in my home?

Why does my shower door squeak most just after a shower?
