The short answer
Pigeons build in a dry corner they can reach by flying in over the railing. Clearing the twigs does not help for long, because the birds return to the same place. A pigeon net across the open side stops them getting in at all. We do not remove nests, eggs or birds, so the net goes up once the corner is empty.
The useful distinction
A nest means the birds have chosen the spot, not just visited it
Pigeons that only perch leave when you walk out. Pigeons with a nest come back within minutes, to the same corner every time. That corner is usually dry, shaded and rarely disturbed: behind a pot, on a loft shelf, beside the AC pipe. The net has to close the way in, not just cover the corner.

- How to tell
- The nest is on a shelf, behind a pot or on a pipe bracket. The balcony is open from the railing up to the ceiling. The birds come and go through that open side.
- What we do
- Once the corner is empty, we close the open side with a pigeon net. It is a knotted nylon net held on steel hooks in the wall and ceiling. A rope through its edge is pulled tight, so birds cannot push in at a corner.

- How to tell
- The utility balcony, the washing area or a service duct is open to the outside. It is used less than the main balcony, which is why the birds chose it.
- What we do
- The same net closes a utility opening or the mouth of a duct. We measure each opening separately. Hooks go all round it, because a net tied at the top only leaves the sides open.

- How to tell
- The balcony is used in the evening, and mosquitoes are as much a problem as the birds. A net has holes that insects fly straight through.
- What we do
- Here we fit balcony mosquito net, which is fine mesh in slim aluminium frames. In stainless steel it keeps out mosquitoes and pigeons together. It costs more than a pigeon net, because it is framed and made to size.

What you can check first

- Look at the nest from a distance and see whether it holds eggs or chicks.
- Note which opening the birds use to come and go.
- Check the utility area and any open duct as well as the main balcony.
- Take a photo of the whole open side from inside the balcony.
Do not lean over the railing or climb onto a ledge to reach a nest. On an upper floor that is a real fall risk. Keep away from dry droppings too, and do not sweep them up dry.

Will you remove the pigeon nest before fitting the net?
No. Removing nests, eggs or birds is not work we do. The net can go up once no bird or nest is left inside the opening. Tell us when you enquire, and we will plan the visit for after that.
The nest has eggs in it. What should we do?
Leave it alone for now, and do not block the birds in. The young leave the nest after some weeks. Book the net for after they have gone, and we close the opening then.
Do pigeons come back to the same balcony every year?
Usually yes, if they can still get in. Pigeons return to a place where they have nested before. That is why closing the open side works better than clearing the nest again and again.
