Meshing the opening, not the windows
Window mesh protects rooms. Balcony mesh protects the balcony itself, closing its open face from railing to ceiling, or grille to ceiling where a grille exists, so the whole space works like a screened porch.
The gain is the balcony's evening hours: tea, laundry, plants, a child's play hour, all without coils and swatters. For homes battling pigeons, the same panels in a heavier mesh end the nesting, the droppings and the 5 am gurgling at once.
Done in fine mesh it reads almost invisible from inside. From outside it reads as a neat shadow line, and far tidier than the improvised nets it usually replaces.
Mesh choices: mosquito, bird, or both
Fine mosquito mesh, fibreglass or stainless, is for insect defence, and it also stops pigeons in practice, though a determined bird can eventually damage light fibre mesh.
Bird-grade mesh is heavier: thicker strands, larger openings, no use against mosquitoes but nearly indestructible against birds, and the budget answer where pigeons are the whole problem.
The both-problems answer is stainless mosquito mesh: fine enough for insects, tough enough that pigeons lose interest, and unaffected by sun for years. It is the most chosen option on our balcony visits and the one we recommend where the budget reaches.

Structure, safety and the fitting
The opening is framed in slim aluminium sections anchored to the balcony's floor, side walls and ceiling, subdividing big faces into panel bays. The mesh tensions within each bay, and every panel is removable from inside for cleaning or replacing.
Safety realities are respected. Panels fit from inside the balcony without ladder work on the outside face. Anchors go into structure, never into loose plaster. And the mesh is insect screening, not a child-safety barrier: it does not replace a grille, and where small children use a high balcony, we say plainly that a grille comes first and the mesh mounts to it happily.
A typical balcony is measured in one visit, fabricated within the week, and fitted in half a day.
Cost and apartment practicalities
Balcony meshing starts at ₹119 per sq ft of covered face. A standard 8 x 8 ft balcony face usually comes to under ₹10,000, with stainless mesh and extra framing bays pricing above the base.
Apartment associations often have rules about external appearance, and mesh is usually the association-friendly option because it is near-invisible and reversible, unlike glazing. We work to the building's rules where there are any.
Mesh is paid for once. It replaces coils, vaporisers, pigeon spikes and cleaning up after birds.
