Pigeons use an open balcony the way you do, and they leave it in a far worse state. A pigeon net closes the open side. It is a knotted nylon net, held on steel hooks drilled into the wall and ceiling, with a rope through its edge pulled tight so no corner sags. It keeps out birds and lets through light, air and the view. We fit pigeon nets across balconies, utility areas, ducts, windows and the ledges that hold AC outdoor units, from ₹25 per sq ft in Bengaluru. This service is sold in Bengaluru only.
What the net is, and what it is not
The net is nylon, knotted at every crossing so a torn strand does not run. It comes in a thin cord that you barely see from a few feet away. We fix it on stainless steel hooks set into the wall and the ceiling, right round the opening. A border rope runs through the outer row of holes, and we tension it over the hooks. That is what keeps the net flat in wind.
It is a bird net. Mosquitoes fly through it, so a balcony mosquito net is a separate service. It is not a safety barrier for children, and it will not stop a fall. Where a small child uses a high balcony, a grille comes first.
Where we fit it
The main balcony is the usual job. We net the open side from the railing up to the ceiling, or from the floor up where there is no railing wall.
Utility areas and washing balconies are netted the same way. They are used less, which is why pigeons like them.
A duct, the open shaft between flats where pipes run, is netted at its mouth on your floor. The ledge or recess that holds an AC outdoor unit is netted over, with the net kept clear of the unit and one side left openable for the AC technician.
Windows can be netted outside the grille where birds sit on the sill.
The fitting visit
We measure the opening and mark the hook line. Hooks go in at close spacing all round, into solid wall or slab, never into loose plaster. The net is cut oversize, threaded onto the border rope, and stretched hook by hook. We work from inside the balcony and do not lean out or use a ladder on the outside face.
Most balconies are finished in one visit. We check the tension in the corners before we leave, because a slack corner is where a pigeon gets in.
Nests, birds and droppings
We fit the net. We do not remove birds, eggs or nests, and we do not fit spikes, gels or bird chemicals. The opening has to be clear of birds and nests before the net goes up. If a nest holds eggs or chicks, book the net for after they have gone.
Dried droppings should be wetted before they are cleaned up, not swept dry. We do not clean them.
What it costs
Pigeon net starts at ₹25 per sq ft of covered face, fitted, in Bengaluru. A balcony face 8 feet wide and 8 feet high is 64 sq ft, so a net across it usually comes to well under ₹2,000. An AC ledge or a duct mouth is a small area, so we price it as a job.
Hooks, border rope and the fitting are included. The net is priced by the face we cover, measured on site.
Where we do this work
Pigeon net installation is a Bengaluru service, fitted by our own team. We come to apartments and independent houses across the city. The city page for this service lists the areas we reach.
