The short answer
An AC outdoor unit sits on a ledge or a stand, and the gap behind it is dry and sheltered. Pigeons perch there, leave droppings on the unit and sometimes nest behind it. A pigeon net fixed over the recess keeps them out. We fit the net only, and we do not service or move the AC unit.

The ledge and the gap behind the unit matter more than the unit itself
Pigeons rarely want the top of the AC outdoor unit. They want the dry gap behind it and the ledge or stand it sits on. A cover over the unit leaves both of those open. A net has to close the whole recess, with room left for the unit to breathe and be serviced.

- How to tell
- The outdoor unit is on a ledge outside a window, or in a recess on the building face. Droppings collect on top of it and on the ledge below. You may hear birds behind it in the early morning.
- What we do
- We fix steel hooks around the recess and stretch a pigeon net over it. The net stands clear of the unit, so air still moves through it freely. We leave a way to open one side, so an AC technician can still reach the unit.

- How to tell
- The outdoor unit stands on the balcony floor or on a wall bracket. Pigeons come in over the railing and settle on it and on the pipes.
- What we do
- Netting the unit alone does not help here, because the birds still use the balcony. We net the open side of the balcony instead. That keeps pigeons off the unit, the pipes and the floor together.

- From inside, look at where the unit sits: a ledge, a recess or the balcony floor.
- See whether twigs or a nest are behind the unit. Look only, and do not reach out.
- Note whether the ledge can be reached from a window or only from outside.
- Take a photo of the unit and the wall around it.
Never lean out of a window or step onto a ledge to chase birds or clean the unit. Tell us if the ledge cannot be reached from inside. We will say at the visit whether it can be netted safely.

Will a net around the AC outdoor unit make it run hot?
A pigeon net is an open net, and air passes through it easily. We keep it clear of the unit so nothing touches the fan. A solid cover is a different thing, and we do not fit those.
Can every AC ledge be netted?
It depends on how the ledge can be reached. A ledge beside a balcony or a large window can usually be netted from inside. A ledge that needs outside access is something we look at before we promise anything.
There are droppings on the outdoor unit. Do you clean them?
No, we fit the net and do not clean or service the unit. An AC technician can clean the unit. Dry droppings should be wetted before they are cleaned, and not brushed off dry.
