Common questions

What is the advantage of pleated mesh over a normal sliding mesh door?

Space and width. A sliding mesh needs its own track and a place for the mesh leaf to slide to, and wide openings need two or three leaves. Pleated mesh stacks into a few centimetres at one side, runs on a nearly flat floor rail, and covers three metres and more in one span. Doors without spare track or parking room are its home ground.

Is the pleated mesh floor rail a tripping hazard or a cleaning problem?

It is the flattest rail in the mesh world, a few millimetres proud of the floor, and feet and trolleys cross it without noticing. Cleaning is a sweep along it, and keeping it grit-free is the one maintenance habit the system asks for, since the pleats glide along that line. Robot vacuums cross it happily.

Can pleated mesh stop halfway open, or is it all or nothing?

It parks anywhere. The cord tensioning holds the span wherever the handle bar is released, so a quarter-open door for the cat, half for a breeze, or fully closed are all just where you leave it. There is no spring pulling it shut and no latch needed to hold it open.

What happens if a child or pet pushes into the pleated mesh?

The mesh yields and recovers. Pleated polyester weave is built to flex, and a push that would tear a taut stretched net folds into it and springs back. It is not a barrier against a running dog, no mesh is, but everyday leaning, pawing and toddler curiosity it takes calmly. Torn spans, in the rare worst case, are replaceable without changing the system.

How long does a pleated mesh system last in daily use?

Years of daily cycles, with the cords as the honest wear part. Quality systems are rated for tens of thousands of operations, and the two user habits, a swept rail and guiding rather than flinging the bar, are most of what decides which end of the range you see. Cords and mesh are serviceable later without replacing rails or channels.

We fit pleated mosquito mesh across Bengaluru. Pleated mesh is the folding kind: the mesh is creased into permanent pleats and glides along a slim floor rail, stacking into a narrow bundle at one side when open. It needs no swing space, no deep track, and no second frame, which is why it solves the openings that defeat ordinary mesh: wide balcony doors, tall French windows, passage openings, and doors used fifty times a day. It is the premium mesh product, at ₹380 per sq ft, and it earns the difference daily.

What makes pleated mesh different

Ordinary mesh is a stretched flat sheet that must live in a frame the size of the opening. Pleated mesh folds, so its home is a slim stack a few centimetres wide at the side of the opening.

Pull the handle bar and the pleats fan out across the opening, guided by tensioned cords and a floor rail about as slim as a finger. Release it anywhere and it stays where you left it, half open if you like.

The rail underfoot is nearly flat, no bar to trip on and nothing for a robot vacuum to fight. For a balcony door the family walks through all evening, that low rail and the one-hand glide are the whole argument.

The openings pleated mesh was made for

Wide balcony and terrace doors, first: a three-metre opening is one pleated span, no centre post, no pair of clashing panels.

Full-height French windows and sliding door walls in newer flats, where any framed mesh would be enormous and a magnetic panel impractical to peel ten times a day.

Openings without room for anything else: no swing space inside for a hinged mesh, no spare track for a slider, and a doorway that cannot lose width to a frame.

And homes where elderly hands or children use the door constantly, because the operating force is fingertip-light and there is nothing to lift, unclip or slam.

Measure, make, fit

Pleated systems are made to the millimetre for each opening, so we measure carefully, including floor level across the span, because the slim rail wants an even floor line.

Fabrication takes about a week: the pleated mesh cut and creased to height, cords tensioned, rails and side channels cut to your colour. The mesh itself is a tough polyester weave designed for folding, and the pleats are permanent by manufacture.

Fitting is a few hours: side channels plumb, floor rail bedded level and sealed, tension balanced so the span glides evenly and parks where released. We cycle it dozens of times before handover, and we show the household the two habits that matter: keep the rail swept, and guide the bar rather than flinging it.

Cost, honestly positioned

Pleated mesh is the most expensive mesh we fit, at ₹380 per sq ft, and a big balcony doorway lands in the low tens of thousands. The price is the mechanism: creased mesh, cord tensioning and machined rails rather than a sheet in a frame.

It is worth paying for exactly where its strengths are used: big openings, heavy daily traffic, no space for alternatives. On a small kitchen window it would be jewellery, and we will say so and point at the cheaper right product.

Cared for, the system runs years. Cords and mesh spans are replaceable parts if a decade or a determined pet demands it, without changing the rails.
