Trade at a junction like this comes largely from people passing in a vehicle rather than walking by, and that changes what a shopfront has to do. A frontage designed for a pedestrian street does not work here, and the differences are worth understanding before spending on glass.
A frontage read at speed
Somebody passing at forty kilometres an hour has a couple of seconds and is looking at the road most of that time.\n\nSo detail is wasted and contrast is not: what registers is a large, bright, uncluttered opening with one clear thing visible inside it.\n\nThat argues for the largest unobstructed glass the opening allows, minimal framing across it, and a well-lit interior. A frontage broken into small panes by heavy framing reads as nothing at all from a moving vehicle.
Dust from the highway, and what it does to glass
A frontage on a junction takes road dust continuously, and a dirty frontage undoes everything the glazing was meant to achieve.\n\nSo how easily the glass can be cleaned matters more here than in most places.\n\nThat means avoiding deep reveals, ledges and horizontal transoms that collect dirt at the front, and keeping the glass reachable from the ground. A frontage that needs a ladder to clean will be cleaned rarely, whatever anybody intends.
Where the door goes when people arrive by vehicle
On a pedestrian street the door position is about display frontage. At a junction it is about where people can actually stop and walk in from.\n\nSo the door wants to be on the side nearest the parking rather than centrally placed for symmetry.\n\nWe ask where customers actually leave their vehicles before setting it, and it is often not where the drawing assumed.
