Most of the partition work here is domestic rather than commercial: a study taken out of a large living room, a work area screened off a bedroom, a consulting space in a villa. People almost always move the line after sitting in it, and at that point it costs nothing to move.
Making a partition look domestic
An office partition system in a house looks exactly like what it is, and that is the commonest disappointment with this work.\n\nWhat reads as domestic is a slimmer frame, a finish that matches the joinery rather than the windows, and glass that runs to the floor rather than sitting on a base panel.\n\nA crittall-style division with slim glazing bars also works well in a home where a large single pane would look like an office. Sound, which matters more at home than in an office
In an office a glass cabin only needs to take the edge off. At home, a study is used for calls while a family lives on the other side of the glass.\n\nSo the head seal and a drop seal on the door matter more here, not less, and a partition stopping short of the ceiling will not do.\n\nWhere the room has a false or coved ceiling we take the partition to the slab and make good, which is more work and the only version that actually works.
