In a small office there is usually only space for one enclosed room, and it ends up doing everything: client meetings, interviews, private calls and occasionally somebody working quietly. Designing it for all of that rather than for meetings alone is what decides whether the office works.
One room, several uses, one specification
A room used for client meetings needs to look presentable; a room used for private calls needs to be sealed; a room used for quiet work needs to be comfortable to sit in for hours.\n\nThose are not in conflict, but only the second one costs money, and it is the one usually dropped.\n\nSo we would seal the head properly and fit a drop seal to the door even where the brief is only meetings, because the moment anybody makes a confidential call in it the room has to actually work. It is a small addition at the time and impossible to add later.
Seeing whether the room is free
In a small office the most common daily annoyance is not knowing whether the one room is occupied.\n\nA fully frosted or solid room makes that invisible; a fully clear one makes anybody inside feel on display.\n\nSo a frosted band at seated eye height solves both at once: you can see the room is occupied without seeing who is in it or what is on the table. It costs the same as frosting the whole panel and it is considerably more useful.
Keeping the rest of the floor light
Where one room is enclosed on a small floor, it can easily block the only window from everybody else.\n\nSo the position matters more than the size: the enclosed room wants to be away from the window rather than against it.\n\nWhere it has to sit on the window side, keeping the glass clear on the run facing the rest of the floor lets the daylight through. Solid partitions on a small floor are the most common reason an office feels smaller after a fit-out than before it.
