These are showrooms with a national brand behind them, and that changes the job in one important way: the specification usually comes from a brand fit-out document rather than from the shop. Making a brand drawing fit a real building
A fit-out drawing is usually the same across every city, and the building it is drawn for is idealised: square openings, level floors, a flat facade.\n\nReal frontages here are none of those, and the difference shows up as a tapering gap at one end of a run.\n\nSo we survey against the drawing before ordering and report the differences, rather than cutting glass to the drawing and dealing with it on site. Brands generally have a tolerance for this; what they do not tolerate is finding out at handover.
Frontage work on the Ring Road
A Ring Road frontage means deliveries have to be timed, because there is nowhere to stand a vehicle during the day.\n\nGlass for a shopfront is large, and unloading it is not quick.\n\nSo the delivery happens at night with the fitting, not in advance, and the panel goes from vehicle to opening in one movement. Storing large glass inside a trading showroom overnight is possible but risky, and we avoid it where the timing can be arranged instead.
The back of house behind the showroom
Behind almost every showroom here is a small back office, a stock room and a staff area, and that is where the partition work usually is.\n\nThe brief there is the opposite of the front: no sightlines, maximum use of a small space, and it must not be visible from the shop floor.\n\nSo we usually fit solid-cored or fully frosted glass rather than clear, and we pay attention to how the door reads from the customer side. A glimpse of stock through a clear partition undoes a carefully finished shop floor.
