In a furniture showroom the glass is not the product, and the best glazing here is the glass you stop noticing. That sounds like a matter of taste and it is mostly technical: panel size, where the joints fall, and how the lighting hits the glass. Get those wrong and the customer sees reflections instead of furniture.
Reflections are a lighting problem, not a glass problem
A shopfront reflects whatever is bright in front of it, so a showroom lit dimly inside and facing a bright street becomes a mirror from outside.\n\nThe usual instinct is to change the glass. What actually works is lifting the light level inside the display zone above the light outside it.\n\nSo we look at the lighting before quoting anything different in the glass. Where the glass genuinely is the problem, a low-reflection coating helps considerably, and it is worth paying for only after the lighting is right.
Big panels, and getting them in
Showrooms here want the largest panel possible, because every joint is a line across the display.\n\nThe limit is almost never the glass. It is the doorway, the turn off the street and whether the panel can be stood up inside once it is in.\n\nSo we work out the largest panel that can physically reach the position, and design to that. A panel that fits the opening but cannot be raised inside the room is a very expensive mistake, and it is entirely avoidable at survey.
Display glazing that gets changed regularly
Furniture displays are rearranged often, and fixed glazing that cannot be moved becomes an obstacle within a year.\n\nSo for internal display divisions we usually recommend a demountable system - glass in a slim frame, fixed mechanically, removable without damage.\n\nIt costs a little more than a fixed partition and it can be taken down, moved and re-set as the floor changes. For a shopfront the opposite applies: that should be fixed, sealed and permanent.
How the job works
- Tell us about the jobSend a few photos, rough sizes and what you need. Use WhatsApp or the form. For a repair, a short video of the door moving helps a lot.
- We call you back in about 2 minutesWe confirm what you need and a time to visit. Where we can, we give you a rough price on the call.
- We come and measureWe measure the opening and check the walls, floor and ceiling around it. Anything made to size is made to these measurements, so they must be right.
- You get a written priceIt lists each item, with GST as its own line. If anything about the job changes, we tell you before we go ahead.
- We fit itYou approve the price and pay the advance. Our own team fits the work, checks that every door and window opens and closes properly, and clears up. Most jobs are done in 3 to 4 days.
