A double glazed window has two panes of glass with a sealed gap of air between them. That gap is what a single pane does not have, and it is why much less noise and heat come through. We supply and fit double glazed windows as new windows, in uPVC or aluminium frames, sliding or hinged, from ₹730 per sq ft in Bengaluru. They are the answer when sealing the gaps around an old window has been done and the room is still too loud. This service is sold in Bengaluru only.
How double glazing cuts noise
Sound travels through a single pane of glass almost as if it were not there. Two panes, with air sealed between them, are much harder for sound to cross. The second pane and the gap each take some of the sound away.
The frame matters as much as the glass. A double glazed unit in a frame that does not close tight lets noise in at the edges. So every window we fit has rubber seals on each closing edge, and the shutters are set so those seals meet all round.
We say reduce, not remove. A double glazed window makes a room beside a main road noticeably quieter. No window makes it silent.
Heat, cold and the air conditioner
The same sealed gap slows heat. Afternoon sun on a single pane warms the room behind it quickly, and an AC then runs longer to hold its temperature. Behind a double glazed window the room warms more slowly and holds cool air for longer. In the cooler months the same gap keeps warmth in.
This is not a cooling product. It does not make a room cool on its own. It helps an AC room stay at the temperature you set, for less running time.
Frames: uPVC or aluminium, sliding or hinged
Both frames take a double glazed unit. uPVC is a rigid plastic frame with steel inside it, and it comes in white and a few wood colours. Aluminium is slimmer, is powder coated in many colours, and suits large openings.
A sliding window suits most Bengaluru flats, because nothing swings into the room. A hinged window closes onto its seals all round, so it seals a little better and suits a bedroom beside a busy road. We advise at the measuring visit, and we can price both.
Every window is made to the opening we measure. The old window and frame are taken out and carried away on the fitting day.
What decides the price
The rate starts at ₹730 per sq ft, fitted, for a standard double glazed unit in a sliding uPVC or aluminium frame. Thicker glass, laminated glass, a larger gap, a hinged frame or a colour outside stock all move the rate up.
Size is measured on site, not from a drawing. Fittings, delivery and the fitting day cost about the same on a small window as on a large one, so the rate is for a normal room window and up. A very small window is quoted as a job.
You get a written price after the measuring visit, before anything is ordered.
Can my old frame keep its glass and just get double glazing?
Usually not, and we tell you plainly when that is so. A double glazed unit is much thicker than a single pane. Most old aluminium and wooden frames have no room for it, and a frame forced to take it does not seal.
Where your window is already uPVC and holds a double glazed unit that has cracked or misted inside, the unit alone can be replaced. That is a repair, and our uPVC window repair page covers it.
Where we fit them
Soundproof double glazed windows are a Bengaluru service, fitted by our own team. We measure, make the windows to size, and fit them in apartments, independent houses and offices across the city. The city page for this service lists the areas we reach.
